Professor of Military Science - Lieutenant Colonel James Adams
Lieutenant Colonel James H. Adams in the new Professor of Military Science in the School of Applied Arts at Texas State University – San Marcos. He received his B.S. degree in General Business Administration from Louisiana State University in 1988 and his M.A. degree in Computer Resources and Information Management from Webster University in 2000. Prior to joining the faculty, he most recently served with the III United States Corps at Fort Hood, Texas as a Strategic Planner.
Over his 21 years of active military service, LTC Adams deployed to the Middle East four times. The first combat tour was during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm and later, he deployed three times to Iraq as an Executive Officer, Governance Officer, and Foreign Military Advisor. His most recent deployment was September 2010 to September 2011 where he was the principal advisor to the chief operations officer of the 3rd Iraqi Federal Police Division in Mosul, Iraq. Additionally, LTC Adams served as a battalion operations officer with the 1st Cavalry Division during humanitarian relief efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
LTC Adams is an Infantry officer serving in leadership and command positions from platoon to battalion earning the Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, and Combat Infantryman's Badge. He is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Combined Arms Services Staff School (CAS3), and the U.S. Army Computer Science School. Among his many awards and decorations LTC Adams received the Bronze Star Medal and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal five times.
As the Professor of Military Science, LTC Adams will be focused on recruiting, retaining, developing, and commissioning cadets to become officers in the U.S. Army, the Army Reserve, and the Texas National Guard. The Department of Military Science encompasses the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) of Texas State to forge leaders that embody the Army Values of Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage. He is married to this high school sweetheart, the former Susan Paul of Alexandria, L.A. They have one son, Matthew (14). His hobbies include reading, kayaking, photography, and spending time with his family.
